This position is a contract position with a local municipality in the Public Works Department. The position reports to the Director of Public Works and primarily involves performing tasks related to the public works department.
The selected candidate will assist the department administer the capital improvement and public works maintenance projects for the municipality such as street improvement, storm drain, and environmental projects. This includes document preparation and project inspections. In addition to municipal projects, the employee will also assist with permit administration and site inspections for private development projects.
The employee will be available to answer questions and distribute information at the public counter and over the telephone. These duties may involve the issuance of public works permits and answering inquiries relating to active capital improvement projects and public works standards and requirements. In addition to technical knowledge, the successful candidate must have excellent writing, public speaking, public relations and administration skills.
This position requires an ability to independently juggle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, while dealing positively and effectively with others and maintaining well-organized and thorough records.
A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from a four- year college or university is required Selected candidate will have basic knowledge of principles and practices of contract administration and project management, budget management, construction techniques, scheduling, and effective customer service. The successful candidate must be able to deal effectively with the public, contractors, developers, advisory bodies, and staff. The ability to independently prepare and present ideas concisely and clearly in written and oral communications is required.
