CONSERVE, RESTORE, DEVELOP AND MANAGE WATERSHEDS
Chief Administrative Officer
If you have a deeply held belief in the importance of environmental stewardship, here is an organization where you can make a difference right on the front lines. Conservation Authorities, created in 1946 by an Act of the Provincial Legislature, are mandated to ensure the conservation, restoration and responsible management of Ontario's water, land and natural habitats through programs that balance human, environmental and economic needs. Just north and east of the Greater Toronto Area, the watershed of the Otonabee Region Conservation Authority covers 1,951 square kilometres and includes some of the most beautiful and dramatic greenspace in Ontario. ORCA is a non-governmental agency financed mainly through self-generated revenues and municipal levies with some additional funding from provincial and federal grants. It works with all levels of government, with landowners, agricultural and rural organizations, environmental groups, business and residents to plan and deliver programs to protect watershed communities.
A healthy environment is the greatest legacy we can leave our children. Protecting and nurturing it are critical to the continued economic growth and prosperity in Ontario. As C.A.O. of ORCA, you will assume responsibility for the performance of the organization, the success of its operations and achievement of its strategic goals. Your principal mission is to establish and sustain key long-term relationships with partners that positively impact the creation and management of watershed and environmental programs. A champion, a fund and friend developer, you will work with your senior management team to educate and mobilize the region. You’ll invite residents, businesses and governments to support healthy watersheds, where human activity respects the need to conserve, restore, develop and manage the natural environment for current and future generations.
In addition to your proven ability to lead a multi-stakeholder organization and ensure maximum productivity, fiscal responsibility and accountability, you are also an adept relationship builder. Along with your passion for conservation, you have an understanding of natural resource watershed management together with a strong working knowledge of provincial and municipal legislation. Here, at ORCA, is the opportunity to combine your client based solutions oriented leadership skills with your deep concern for the environment.
