The Delta Diablo Sanitation District (DDSD) is an innovative wastewater resource recovery agency providing wastewater, recycled water, street sweeping and household hazardous waste services in the heart of the California Delta region, 50 miles east of San Francisco. What distinguishes the district is its willingness to test the conventional way of doing business as a public agency. The DDSD is a progressive and well-run enterprise that believes its role extends beyond the operational responsibilities of the core business areas.
The Resource Recovery Services Director is a newly created title that incorporates many of the similar organizational responsibilities as the former Operational Services Director position. In reporting to the Deputy General Manager, this role will provide an essential “bridge” in leading the work team to greater levels of engagement and awareness of broader organizational themes related to the DDSD mission and environmental stewardship. The District promotes greater efficiency through industry collaboration and regional solutions. It takes its environmental responsibilities seriously through educational programming and information delivery and through expanded services to the community. The new director will be a key proponent and advocate in these efforts and is expected to serve as an influence leader in helping the organization relate to its responsibility in promoting these principles.
The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of progressively responsible management or supervisory experience in the public works field, with at least five years in a management position within the wastewater industry at a facility of comparable size and complexity to that of the DDSD. Working knowledge of wastewater operations and maintenance processes and procedures is also required. A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience, training and education) with major course work in civil or environmental engineering, biology, chemistry or a closely related field is required. To apply, submit your letter of interest, resume, current salary and five work related references (email preferred) to Paul Kimura by January 31, 2014. A formal job announcement is available on our website at http://www.averyassoc.net/jobs.
