Glynn County Board of Commissioners is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Public Works Director. Reporting to the County Administrator, the Public Works Director is responsible for the strategic direction and day-to-day leadership and management of the department. The core services provided by Public Works are divided into the following functional areas: drainage, road maintenance, traffic safety, field engineering and fleet maintenance. In addition to strategic planning and managing the daily operations of the department, the Director is responsible for developing and updating the five-year Capital Plan; administering the contracts for solid waste services and mosquito control services; and developing and refining contingency plans for hurricanes and other disasters.

Minimum Requirements:  Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Management, Construction Management, or closely related field required. Master’s degree preferred. Education must be supplemented by seven (7) years previous experience and/or training that includes progressively responsible public works, engineering, road/drainage project coordination, construction management, traffic/transportation planning, project management, budget administration, and management/supervision; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Salary is commensurate with experience. Glynn County offers employees an excellent benefit package, which includes health, prescription drug plan, life and long-term disability coverage at a low cost to employees and dependents. Supplemental coverage is available through a flex benefits program. Glynn County also provides an onsite wellness clinic which provides primary, preventive and wellness care at no cost to employees covered by the County’s health insurance plan. Pension is funded through a defined benefit plan and deferred compensation is offered. The Director also receives a car allowance and cell phone allowance.
