The City of Somersworth, NH, is accepting applications for the position of Director of Public Works and Utilities. This position is a key part of the city's leadership team and oversees all operational and administrative facets of the city's street, water, wastewater, storm water, and engineering divisions.

The ideal candidate will be an involved and hands-on public works professional, who will support the existing commitment to quality and service while bringing new ideas and direction to the Public Works Department, and be an integral player introducing and implementing smart growth and management principles to help guide the community towards a future of long-term viability and sustainability.

Compensation includes an annual salary of $72,430 to $88,039 depending upon qualifications, membership in the NH retirement system, medical insurance, and other highly competitive benefits.

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Engineering, Public or Business Administration, or a closely related field is strongly preferred, along with at least eight (8) years of experience, three (3) years of which experience must be in a supervisory and administrative role. Relevant, extensive senior level public works management experience may be considered in lieu of a college degree. Experience in the operation and maintenance of public works facilities and services is essential, as is the ability to work in a team-oriented, customer-focused organization. Possession of a valid NH Commercial driver license (CDL) and an acceptable driving record are required.

This position may be required to work extended or unusual hours to oversee winter maintenance, emergency repairs, and disaster response services, as well as attending City Council meetings or other public events as needed.
