The Port of San Francisco is seeking a highly qualified Engineer with a California Professional Engineering License for the position of Chief Harbor Engineer. Ideal candidates must have a proven track record of project management, including a proactive, hands-on, “jack of all trades” type background, and must possess excellent interpersonal, problem solving, communication, leadership, and financial management skills. This at-will position reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for all of the engineering activities of the Port of San Francisco, including a staff of 25 full-time employees. The ongoing repair and replacement capital budget is approximately $15 million per year, with notable enhancement projects such as Phase II of the James R. Herman Cruise Terminal at Pier 27 and the General Obligation Bond parks projects. This position requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in Engineering and a California Professional Engineering License; and ten (10) years of increasingly responsible engineering experience including three (3) years of responsibility for the management people. Having Port experience is a definite plus combined with strong knowledge and familiarity with operating budgets of a similar scope and magnitude, funding sources, and strategic planning/initiatives.
