Plans, directs, and manages the systems maintenance and meter services activities of a Maintenance Service Center in a zoned service area based in Gaithersburg, Hyattsville or Silver Spring in suburban Maryland.

  • Plans, directs, and coordinates the work of team coordinators who are responsible for maintenance of the water and wastewater system in a specifically defined geographical area of the sanitary district
  • Facilitates the group in dealing with the investigation of requests for the support services group, including complaints such as water leaks and sewer stoppages
  • Supervises the performance of the more difficult assignments in connection with the group’s maintenance programs
  • Prepares and maintains necessary records, correspondence, and reports relating to the activities of the group
  • Prepares budget requests, makes appropriate allocations in conjunction with long term group goals
  • Develops operating policies, procedures and objectives to maintain high standards of quality service and efficiency
  • Monitors various management reports to determine the types of activities completed in the group, and re-prioritizes the activities as needed
  • Monitors the group’s backlogs and gives recommendations as needed
  • Resolves the more complex customer or employee complaints/problems
  • Oversees compliance with safety rules and regulations established by OSHA, the State of Maryland, and WSSC
  • Supervises the performance of the more difficult assignments in connection with the group’s maintenance programs
  • Makes regular and frequent inspections of work in the field
  • Controls the physical plant at a Maintenance Service Center
  • Supervises zone group staff, including selecting or recommending selection, training, assigning and evaluating work, counseling, disciplining, and/or termination or recommending termination.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS degree in civil, mechanical, sanitary, environmental or related engineering discipline
  • 9+ years experience in water/sewer systems or meter maintenance in a large-scale facilities/utilities infrastructure
  • 3+ years management experience in water/sewer utility systems
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a WSSC driver’s permit
  • Must obtain Water Distribution Operator’s certification and Wastewater Collection Operator’s certification within 1 year, and maintain the certifications throughout the time in the position

PREFERENCES:

  • Possession of a Professional Engineering (PE)license in the State of Maryland
  • MS degree in civil, mechanical, sanitary, environmental or related engineering discipline
