The City of Gaithersburg, Maryland, is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable public works professional with a hands-on approach to management to serve as the Director of Public Works. Gaithersburg is a thriving, culturally diverse and vibrant community in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, located north of the nation’s capital. It is a major international location for high technology companies, and boasts award winning schools, neighborhoods and commercial developments.

The Gaithersburg Mayor and City Council have provided sound, stable political leadership and work closely with residents, property owners and staff. Requirements for the position of Director of Public Works include a Bachelor’s Degree and 10 years local government management experience in the fields of public works, utilities, or construction management with a track record of embracing increasingly complex responsibility. Preferred qualifications include membership in the American Public Works Association (APWA), facility with public speaking, experience in operations and capital improvement project management. A PE certification is preferred, but not required.
