The City of Covington is seeking an experienced city engineer to analyze, propose, plan and implement a variety of projects and programs involving areas such as development and capital projects relating to transportation and stormwater.
Representative responsibilities include proposing projects, priorities and budget; monitoring the operating budget and specialized funds; and the research, preparation and presentation of justifications for major expenditures. As directed, the city engineer will also act as a representative of the engineering division of the Public Works Department before the city council, various committees, public meetings, and on inter-jurisdictional bodies. The city engineer will also provide development review services, as needed. Work is performed in an office setting, and meetings will occasionally be scheduled outside of normal business hours without additional compensation.
Minimum criteria includes 5 years professional-level experience in civil engineering and registration as a Professional Engineer in Civil Engineering in the State of Washington; or, an equivalent combination of education, experience and registration that demonstrates the ability to successfully carry out the responsibilities of the position. Preferred criteria includes a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering; at least 2 years experience in a local government, public sector position requiring engineering management of numerous programs and projects; and at least 2 years supervision of other professional engineers.
