Duties: Performs non-sworn supervisory and inspection work in directing the servicing of police and emergency equipment installation, maintenance and minor repair of automotive and related equipment. Manages an 800+ vehicle fleet. Oversees a group of police mechanics, technicians and inventory personnel engaged in the installation, servicing and minor repair of police vehicles, automobiles, motorcycles, trucks, and other standard and special equipment operated by the department. Performs duties under the general supervision of a superior and is evaluated through proper functioning of the equipment which is maintained, paper or computer documentation of labor, orders, parts and safety requirements.

Requirements: 5 years in vehicle fleet management or related field, including five years supervisory or managerial experience. Some college or technical training required; Associate's degree in automotive technology, business, or related field preferred. Knowledge of the techniques, methods, and equipment used in police and emergency installation, servicing, maintenance, and automotive minor repairs. Ability to diagnose the need for repairs to police, emergency, automotive and electronic equipment. Ability to follow oral and written instructions, maintain computerized and written records related to work operations, supervise the work of subordinates, work outside throughout the year if necessary, and manage a large fleet. Public Fleet Professional Certification (CPFP) or certification as an Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM) preferred. A Valid NC Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
