The Town of Southern Pines seeks a highly qualified individual to plan, direct and supervise the activities of the water and wastewater divisions. This position will lead a very motivated and successful work unit and be a key member of the Public Services leadership team. The ideal candidate will have several years’ experience working for a municipal water and sewer utility; at least five years of supervisory experience; excellent communication, computer, and organizational skills; understand and follow all applicable laws and rules; and experience creating and managing a utility budget. Administrative responsibilities include overseeing the daily operations of water distribution and sewer collection. This individual is also responsible for monthly water meter reading operations, sewer lift stations operation and maintenance, line repairs, new service installations, daily scheduling of staff and first responder for emergency repairs and replacements. Requires in depth knowledge of budgeting, staffing and equipment. Must be certified as a grade A water distribution operator and a grade II wastewater collection operator or have the ability to obtain within the six month probationary period. Salary negotiable based on experience and education.
