Essential Duties: This is administration, planning, and management of the operations and employees of Vehicle Maintenance Services. The individual appointed to this position will perform the following duties: oversee and direct the activities, programs, and employees of Vehicle Maintenance Services, including ensuring efficient operation and productivity to provide the highest level of customer service to user departments; develop and manage various fleet programs, including preventative maintenance, recall compliance, and fuel card management; oversee and maintain a computerized fleet management and inventory control system; ensure all vehicles and equipment are inspected, registered, and licensed in accordance with applicable local, State, and Federal regulations; make staffing decisions, conduct performance evaluations and enact discipline and/or employee recognition as needed; supervise record maintenance and review all reports, logs, work records, and documentation of subordinates; develop and manage safety programs for assigned personnel, including the coordination of all applicable risk management issues; develop and manage the Vehicle Maintenance Services budget; propose and approve specifications for all contracts and equipment purchases; manage and oversee surplus equipment transfers and the disposal of City owned vehicles and equipment; ensure overall shop compliance with applicable ordinances and local, State, and Federal regulations; and perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements: Three (3) years of administrative experience in fleet maintenance operations or a related field, including automated shop and inventory operations; and two (2) years of experience as a diesel, heavy equipment, automotive, or light truck mechanic; OR an equivalent combination of job-related education and experience [substituting each one year of post-secondary education/training for 6 months of experience]. New hire probation period is one year.
Selection Factors: Knowledge of modern methods and procedures used in the repair and maintenance of all types and sizes of vehicles, construction equipment, engines, and components; computerized fleet information systems including inventory operations; bidding processes and preparing contract specifications; budget preparation and administration; and effective supervisory methods and techniques. Skill in the use of current technological options to maximize efficiency and cost effectiveness of fleet maintenance and vehicle replacement programs. Also, skill in performing duties in a manner that demonstrates respect, integrity, courtesy, and kindness towards fellow workers, customers, and the general public. Ability to estimate materials and time needed to complete jobs; read and interpret drawings and sketches of mechanical and electrical systems and repair manuals; and supervise others in mechanical repair.
Salary: $1,910 - $2,633 biweekly—(Range 28). Payment will be by direct deposit and position includes a full benefits package, including: medical, dental, life, and LTD insurance plans; retirement plans; employee assistance and wellness programs; and sick, vacation, and holiday leaves. Physical/Environmental Factors: Work is performed in an office, the field, and/or motor shop; is in a noisy place and exposes the incumbent to conditions such as fumes, noxious odors, hazardous chemicals, dusts, mists, gases, and poor ventilation that could affect the respiratory system, eyes, or skin; exposes the incumbent to possible bodily injury from moving mechanical parts of equipment, tools, and/or machinery; requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc. Incumbent must regularly walk, stand, stoop, crawl, climb, kneel, crouch, balance, or sit; frequently lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects; and work for periods of time maintaining concentrated attention to detail.
