Responsibilities: Plans, supervisors and coordinates the operation of the Fleet Maintenance division of Public Works which includes customer service, automotive and equipment maintenance and repair and fiscal integrity. Other city departments rely on the Fleet division to repair and maintain the assigned equipment so others can perform their jobs. Down time should be kept to a minimum. The position is 40% administrative; 60% labor. Plans and supervises the operation of the Fleet Services division which includes automotive repair services, equipment maintenance, tools and fleet administration. Establish objectives, plans and evaluates operations and overall effectiveness. Coordinates internal and external work projects. Repairs vehicles and equipment, providing excellent customer services. Manages and maintains the City’s fueling station to ensure its readiness and complies with application laws/regulations. Assists with long range plans, budget, analysis and project reviews. Is subject to after-hours calls for emergency repairs and as part of the City’s Snow Removal program.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in automotive technology or related field preferred. Class A MO CDL or ability to obtain within 6 months. Minimum of 5 – 7 years in fleet management required with a minimum of 2 in a supervisory position. Municipal experience desired. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products, automotive and equipment diagnosis; knowledge of light, medium and heavy duty vehicle maintenance and repair. Provide own hand tools to perform mechanic’s duties. Knowledge of fuel dispensing systems. Familiar with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Must be able to understand and communicate effectively, handle stress and work extended hours, resolve conflicts professionally. Must be able to physically sit, stand and move about, use overall body movements to repair and maintain vehicles and equipment; occasionally lift up to 80 pounds and move it 15 feet. Supervises a staff of 2 mechanics..
