Director of Water & Sewer
The Town of Brookline (pop 59,000) seeks highly qualified applicants for the position of Director of Water and Sewer. Brookline is a MWRA community that provides water and wastewater service to 10,000 residential and commercial customers. Under the general direction of the Commissioner of Public Works, the Director of Water and Sewer will promote the general health, safety and welfare of the Town of Brookline in directing the planning and operations of the municipal water distribution system and the wastewater collection systems.
Supervising a staff of 40 employees, the director will perform highly responsible functions requiring the exercise of much independent judgment in planning, budgeting, laying out the work, inspecting the work of construction projects, accounting for water supply and metered consumption, and in determining the scope and scheduling of maintenance projects. Will provide emergency response to water service interruptions and to sewer and drain blockages. This position will require ongoing contact with residential, commercial and institutional users of the Town's water and sanitary sewer systems to assure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations for drinking water supply and wastewater discharge.
Bachelor's Degree and qualifying experience in the area of civil engineering; five to ten years of experience in municipal water and wastewater operations in a progressively responsible capacity, including three years of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid Massachusetts Drinking Water Supply Operator Grade 4D license, and thorough knowledge of the policies and operating procedures of the Town's water supply source. Specialized knowledge of water and wastewater utility systems, including understanding and use of specialized equipment and materials for repair and maintenance of piping networks. Ability to maintain good public relations, excellent planning, organizational and budgetary skills. Salary $101-$109K DOQ, with Department Head level benefits.
