The City of Naperville currently seeks a wastewater maintenance professional to plan, coordinate and supervise the projects & activities of the Wastewater Maintenance Section at its Springbrook Water Reclamation Center. The successful candidate will support all wastewater treatment operations with preventative maintenance procedures and corrective maintenance repairs for all site buildings and process equipment.
Reporting to the Water/Wastewater Operations Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor leads a staff of five (5) dedicated employees, assigning mechanical and electrical maintenance work tasks. The Supervisor assists in the preparation/administration of the operations & maintenance budget, serves as the administrator of the plant’s computerized parts/supplies inventory, and oversees the procurement of parts and outside services as needed to maintain the wastewater treatment process equipment and site buildings & facilities.
In planning & coordinating plant maintenance, the Maintenance Supervisor engages in detailed communication with both the Operations Supervisor and the Operations Manager in order to fully discuss/consider the scheduling and prioritization of these activities (this is a team approach). The Maintenance Supervisor procures parts, materials and services to keep all building and wastewater treatment process equipment running effectively & efficiently.
The Supervisor trains maintenance staff employees, emphasizing safety as first priority. He/she coaches employees, sets expectations/goals and priorities, provides clear & consistent direction to maintenance staff, develops teamwork, evaluates performance, and provides positive recognition (and/or invokes disciplinary procedures) as necessary.
The Maintenance Supervisor also plans, directs & evaluates the work of contractors who perform corrective maintenance and repairs beyond the capabilities/capacities of the maintenance staff. He/she supervises the preventative maintenance program (establishing efficient, effective organization of the work order system), and maintains control and accountability for the wastewater plant’s inventory/warehouse.
At a minimum, the job pre-requisites include a high school diploma (or equivalent), plus additional (related) specialized training. At least five (5) to seven (7) years experience in a related operations/maintenance field are required, plus one (1) to two (2) years previous supervisory experience. A valid State of Illinois Driver's License is also mandatory.
Strongly preferred for this position are an Associate's degree in a related field, plus Wastewater Operator certification. Better candidates will possess demonstrated skills in effective communication, be knowledgeable of multiple fields of maintenance (e.g., mechanical repair, HVAC, plumbing, electronics and electrical motor controls), and have the ability/experience to effectively supervise, lead & direct the work activities of others while championing workplace safety.
