Naperville’s Water Utility seeks a self-motivated wastewater professional to function as a hands-on Field Supervisor, coordinating and monitoring its preventative maintenance program in the Wastewater Maintenance Section at its Springbrook Water Reclamation Center.
Reporting to the Wastewater Maintenance Supervisor, the Field Supervisor (in a vital, working foreman-type of role) assists in coordinating the work performed by outside contractors. He/she also aids/supports the Wastewater Maintenance Supervisor in monitoring, engaging and/or assigning work to hourly employees as needed. The Field Supervisor leads 4 to 5 such employees in plant and grounds maintenance activity. There are no budgetary responsibilities associated with this position.
The Field Supervisor assists in executing and coordinating the preventative maintenance program for plant and pumping equipment; directs the work of crews involved in the installation, maintenance, testing and repair of equipment at the wastewater treatment plant and pump stations; assigns and schedules appropriate equipment and materials necessary for projects and activities; maintains repair and maintenance records; processes purchase order requests; monitors performance of plant systems and equipment; and identifies needed repairs, advising on improvements.
At a minimum, the job pre-requisites include a high school diploma (or equivalent), plus additional (related) specialized training. At least one (1) to three (3) years experience in a related water operations/maintenance field are required. A valid State of Illinois Driver's License is also mandatory.
Strongly preferred for this position are an Associate's degree, plus previous foreman, lead, or supervisory responsibilities. Wastewater Operator certification is a plus. Successful candidates will be skilled in supervising employees, possess a history of effective workplace communication and valuable relationships, and be knowledgeable of basic wastewater treatment principles, and electrical & mechanical maintenance/repair.
