PWE invites interest and applications from highly qualified individuals for the position of Assistant Director for Water Resources Planning in the Department’s Planning and Development Services Division.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The City of Houston’s Public Works and Engineering Department provides many services that directly affect the daily lives of those who live and/or work in Houston. Six divisions deliver the Department’s key products and services that include streets, drainage, traffic controls, drinking water production and distribution, waste water collection and treatment, new and replacement infrastructure, developmental services and utility customer account services. PWE is staffed with a highly trained, diverse workforce of approximately 3,900 employees and has an annual budget of $1.2 billion.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Assistant Director for Water Resources Planning is responsible for the supervision and direction of staff including planners, engineers and support personnel involved in infrastructure planning activities and the administration of all water and waste water sales contracts. The position reports to the Senior Assistant Director for Infrastructure Planning and supports the Department in monitoring, assessing and providing input for water resource issues at the regional, state and federal levels. Planning responsibilities include development of long range projections for water availability and aggregated customer demand. The Assistant Director will guide and direct staff in the development and assessment of infrastructure and policy strategies to provide cost effective plans for water supply and waste water management to meet the City’s future needs. Other responsibilities include representing the Department and City in communications and meetings with various regional and state authorities and non-governmental organizations in support of the City’s interests in both water availability and quality.
