The Fleet Service Equipment Supervisor Supervises staff engaged in maintenance and repair of the City’s equipment and car fleets at six maintenance and repair locations. Oversee: Preventive maintenance, repair, servicing, and reutilization of automotive equipment. Maintenance of records of inventory and maintenance and repair activities. Rental and leasing of equipment needed for operations. Hazardous waste stream compliance, including permits and ensuring proper disposal, records and reporting.  Maintenance of personnel records, including payroll processing, work orders. Oversight over eight fueling sites. Assist in generating specifications for equipment, supplies, materials, and oversee contracts for procurement and budget. Oversee mechanical inspection of taxi-cabs, including establishing and updating program policies and procedures and tracking of costs and budget. Coordinate with user departments to assist fleet services director and maintenance manager with budget preparation. Oversee training activities for staff, (Mechanics and Equipment Service Workers) and may do some training for user department staff. Oversee enforcement of work rules and departmental policy and procedure.  Manage staff and personnel issues including details, permits, promotions, and discipline. Schedule and supervise special projects, modifications, redesigns, and fabrications for equipment. Coordinate with and handle communications with other City Departments, other governmental organizations and Federal, State, and Local regulatory agencies, etc.  Consult with contractors, vendors, inspectors, regarding division activities, including billing, and DOT annual inspections.  Responsible for waste storage, hazardous waste processing, safety training, right to know training, and emergency response preparedness. Monitor the six Fleet Services work sites to ensure safety procedures are followed.  Investigate complaints and accidents, and complete reports documenting incidents and actions. Ability to maintain records and prepare reports. Investigate, report and take appropriate action on complaints and any emergency situation. Requirments: College level course work in Automotive Technology, Truck and Heavy Equipment Repair, experience in fleet management, including supervisory experience.  Associate’s degree or 60 semester units of college level course work in Automotive Technology, Truck and Heavy Equipment Repair, experience in fleet management, including supervisory experience. Or other Fleet Management Certificate CPFP, CAFM or CEM.

Minimum Experience:   Five years of recent experience performing journeymen level mechanical work, supervising employees, in construction equipment and motor vehicle repair.  Three years’ experience with a Fleet Management system (FleetFocused  M-5 preferred).  Equivalency: A verifiable combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.  You must submit photo copies of any school transcripts/certificates, diplomas, training courses, etc as proof of education. Licenses/Certifications:  Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with air brake and tanker endorsement.
