Please note: Employee is required to make a contribution to CalPERS retirement on a pre-tax basis.
Currently depending on prior or current membership in CalPERS that contribution can range from 6.25% to 7% and may change in the future depending upon CalPERS and contract negotiations. The City does not participate in Social Security.
Petaluma is located 35 miles north of San Francisco in Sonoma County and is an ideal base for exploring wineries, Northern California’s coastline, and the entire Bay Area. The City of Petaluma’s Ellis Creek Water Recycling Plant commenced operations in January 2009, and uses an innovative blend of mechanical and natural treatment processes, supported by a highly sophisticated computerized control system and a 14,000 square foot operations and maintenance building. Located in a rural setting near the Petaluma River, this 6.7 mgd facility presents a pleasant working environment.
The Mechanical Technician is a single class position assigned to the Ellis Creek Water Recycling Facility. The Mechanical Technician performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks pertaining to the installation, maintenance, repair and service of the electrical and mechanical equipment, instruments and structures used within the water recycling facility, sewer pump stations and the recycled water distribution system; and provides technical staff support to plant operations. Education and Experience
Any combination equivalent to the education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to gain such knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: Equivalent to graduation from high school; additional technical or college-level coursework related to water systems and/or water recycling plant operations is highly desirable.
Experience: Two years of responsible experience performing systems maintenance and repair duties in a water or wastewater treatment plant; or four years performing maintenance and repair in an industrial environment that included maintaining/repairing pumps, motors, engines, boilers, piping, valves and instrumentation.
Must be available to work overtime and off-shift hours, including weekends, on a project or emergency basis.
May be required to work on-call.
Highly Qualified Applicants
Applicants demonstrating the following will be rated as most highly qualified:
Technical or college-level coursework related to water systems and/or water recycling plant operations.Possession of position related certifications as noted above in licenses/certificates.Experience installing, maintaining and repairing electrical and mechanical equipment used within water recycling facilities and sewer pump stations.Experience working with vendors, equipment manufacturers, and outside technical support in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical or control systems and or equipment.
