The City of Washington, IL is seeking a City Engineer. Requirements include a B.S. in Engineering, a minimum of 3 years’ experience, and have or have the ability to obtain registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois.
Duties and Responsibilities: Supervise and coordinate design and construction projects involving streets, storm water, water and wastewater systems, and buildings; prepare budgets and timelines on projects. Review engineering specifications and cost estimates for projects. Exercise professional judgment in accordance with currently accepted practices of civil engineering and appropriate laws and codes. Participate in the process of selecting consultants to design various city projects; review and manage consultant studies, designs, plans, specifications and related items. Assist in the preparation and supervision of consultant and contractor services contracts. Research, prepare, and submit grant and loan applications for engineering and construction related work. Maintain constant awareness of progress and budget on assigned projects; design and ensure compliance to approved budget and designated time schedules for project completion. Make recommendations regarding the drafting and revising of ordinances, resolutions, policies, and procedures. Participate in a variety of special engineering studies to determine impact of various projects; prepare technical reports. Respond to questions and concerns of staff, other departments, consultants, and the general public. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
This position is appointed by and reports to the City Administrator, offers a minimum salary of $75,000 that can increase depending on experience, offers an excellent benefit package that includes participation in IMRF (pension), and will likely grow into the creation of a Public Works Director in the future.
