Engineer Technician III

The Marin County Human Resources Department and the Department of Public Works are announcing a recruitment for the position of Engineering Technician III. Currently there are three vacancies: one full-time in the Flood Control and Water Resources section; one full-time in the Transportation Services section; and one part-time in the Land Development section. The part-time hours consist of 18.75 hours per week. These are excellent opportunities for team players.

The Engineering Technician III performs a variety of technical, field and office work in one of the functional engineering sections within the Department of Public Works, e.g. Flood Control, Transportation Services, Land Development, Engineering Services and Capital Buildings. Incumbents will be expected to serve in a lead capacity and perform difficult technical assignments or may supervise subordinate technical personnel in a functional area.

The ideal candidate will have experience in the area of assignment assisting in the planning, design, construction and maintenance of engineering projects and performing computer-aided drafting and GIS mapping analysis. The selected individual has performed field investigations, land surveys and studies for infrastructure projects that involve the collection and compilation of technical data and has experience developing and maintaining databases, files and recordkeeping systems related to engineering projects. In addition, the ideal candidate will have experience providing clear communication of technical engineering information to the public through written communication, in person meetings and public workshops.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Equivalent to graduation from high school, supplemented by at least one course in each of the following: trigonometry and computer-aided drafting, and four years of experience in engineering work at a sub-professional level. (Two years of college engineering courses may be substituted for two years of the required experience on a year for year basis and/or one year of computer-aided drafting experience may substitute for the drafting course.)
