Norwich University seeks an outstanding professional candidate to serve as the Program Director of the online Master of Public Administration (MPA) program. The MPA degree may be completed in less than two years and is substantially online. We are seeking a director with demonstrated academic and administrative leadership; experience in a public organization is highly desirable. We are seeking a person with a desire to build upon and improve an established and respected public administration program. This is a full-time, non-tenure track position with limited graduate teaching responsibilities and faculty rank contingent upon experience. The initial term of appointment is for up to two years and subject to ongoing renewal.
Qualifications: Terminal degree in public administration or a related discipline is preferred; candidates with a master’s degree and substantial experience will be considered. The successful candidate will be familiar with best practices, trends and leading theories in the area of public administration, to include the areas of leadership, public works, nonprofit organizations, criminal justice, financial management and human services. Teaching and curriculum development experience --particularly in the area of adult education--are required; experience in distance education with adult learners is highly desirable. The candidate must have current authorization to work for any employer in the U.S.
Responsibilities: Develop and maintain curriculum; oversee the development of new courses and concentrations; continuous improvement of existing curriculum in collaboration with program faculty; interface with external constituents in public service, public works, government and the military; monitor enrollments; recruit and evaluate qualified instructors; organize academic events for the annual residency conference; creatively lead and manage students, staff and instructors; actively participate in Norwich University governance and academic life. The position of program director at the CGCS requires a commitment to collaboration, an appreciation of innovation for seeking new and different ways to provide academic services, and the ability to explore new relationships with outside entities in the public sector for possible partnerships. Verbal communication skills are at a premium as is the ability to meet deadlines for the additional job requirements imposed within the college. Finally, the candidate must enjoy working in a fast-past environment with multiple demands on one’s time and energy. Program Directors are expected to periodically teach in the College of Graduate and Continuing Studies.
