PUBLIC WORKS INSPECTOR
SALARY: $4,809 - $6,101 per month
FILING DEADLINE: Friday, May 17, 2013, by 5:00 p.m.
Under general supervision, inspects public and private development projects, residential improvements and rights-of-way permit work; ensures compliance with city standards, municipal codes, plans and specifications; and does related work as required.
Knowledge of: Proper inspection methods associated with construction, private development and rights-of-way projects; streets and utility construction methods and materials; basic record keeping practices and procedures; basic principles of engineering and math; safety regulations including city standards, municipal codes, plans and specifications, and applicable laws and construction standards; effective customer service techniques.
Ability to: Read and interpret job plans, blueprints, specifications, work orders and schematics; follow construction surveying procedures; operate a calculator to perform basic engineering computations in preparing for daily reports; prepare and present administrative reports and staff recommendations; understand and follow oral and written instructions; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, management, contractors, developers, utility companies, public and private agencies, general public, and others in the course of work.
Education, Training, Experience: High School graduation or G.E.D. equivalent AND two years of experience in the review and inspection of city projects, private developments, public improvements, and rights-of-way permit work is required.
Possession of a valid California Class C driver license, acceptable driving record, and evidence of insurance are required.
