The City of Durham, NC is looking for an Assistant Director of Public Works (Maintenance) to join our organization. This position reports to the Director of Public Works and will oversee the Maintenance division of the department (100+ FTE’s), which includes: street maintenance, stormwater maintenance, concrete maintenance, dirt street/alley maintenance and street cleaning. The Assistant Director of Public Works - Maintenance (ADPW-M) will play a critical leadership role on the Public Works management team, bringing a service-focused, proactive and facilitative approach to meeting customer needs. The ADPW-M will be responsible for developing and maintaining positive working relationships with the Maintenance division staff, internal City staff, and with the public. This position will also be responsible for strengthening the Maintenance Division’s staff teamwork, morale, and technical abilities. A key priority for the Maintenance Division is to become a data driven, high performance unit within Public Works. The ADPW-M will be responsible for developing and evaluating the division’s performance measures, preliminary annual budget, and annual performance standards for the staff within the division. In addition, the ADPW-M will be responsible for the development and delivery of a division wide personnel training program for managers and supervisors.
