APWA Public Works Institute Learning Model
"It is the capacity to develop and improve their skills that distinguishes leaders from followers."
—Leaders: The Strategies for Taking Charge, Warren Bennis and Bert Nanus, 1985
A national learning model specifically developed for APWA chapter use, this model was developed by reviewing APWA’s needs assessment, core competencies for public works supervisors and leaders, and input from the Presidential Task Force and chapters currently using management training programs. It consists of 10 core topic areas with 60 individual course topics.
The publication is an instructor’s resource guide to develop and present instruction or can be used as a self-paced learning tool. Ideal candidates for the course “aspire to be better leaders and supervisors in the public works field.” The primary target audience includes current first-line supervisors and above.
This is the perfect tool to use to develop tomorrow’s public works leaders today.
