Who should apply?
For early stage professionals considering career options in leadership, Level 1 Public Works Supervisor (PWS) provides practical information about the unique opportunities and challenges of front-line supervision.

Program Description

The PWS credentialing program is the first level of the DCS Center's Leadership and Management career path, and focuses on knowledge and skills that will help supervisors become effective leaders. Increasingly, supervisors should know how to communicate clearly, empathetically and effectively under pressure, how to navigate the political environment, how to leverage resources, how to rethink systems and how to critically consider and integrate solutions and options across all functional areas. In essence, effective supervisors and team leaders will need to understand how all areas of public works interact with each other to create, support and grow healthy communities. Graduates of this program receive a PWS credential they can put after their name that provides national recognition that they’ve acquired the skills and knowledge necessary to perform as an effective supervisor.
