Is there a formal education program?
Degree programs supplement each of the career paths. As the DCS Center matures, APWA will be seeking partnerships with selected colleges and universities so that public works professionals can select coursework in public works from an associate’s through a master’s degree. The vision is to have coursework starting at the vocational high school level through master's programs.

Is the Leadership & Management program customizable?
The DCS Center is an educational system designed so that anyone in public works can progress systematically through the program based on their interests, talents and experience.
What are the highlights of the different levels of the Leadership & Management program?
Each level has its own entry requirements, progressive levels, a dedicated professional development program and plan, a professional portfolio/journaling requirement,  pre- and post-assessments, and access to one-on-one mentoring with a public works leader with more than 20 years of experience in the field.

What does the Center's emblem mean?
The motto, Educare et Crescere, "to educate and grow," represents the Center’s mission to position public works professionals to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century. The sunrise and the oak leaf represent the environment within which public works infrastructure resides.

What role do the chapter institutes play?
Completion of an APWA public works institute is a graduation requirement for the Public Works Supervisor (PWS) and Public Works Manager (PWM) credentials within the Leadership and Management career path. Click here for more information about chapter public works institutes.

When was the Public Works Leadership Fellow program launched?
The PWLF program was launched at the 2011 International Public Works Congress & Exposition in Denver.

When will the Technical Specialty and the Public Works Professional career paths programs be launched?
These programs are currently under development as the DCS Center works with partner organizations to establish the career progression. APWA will make an announcement once they are available to the public. In the meantime, you can visit the Future Releases webpage to learn more.
