Board2011On behalf of APWA's Board of Directors for 2011- 2012, welcome to the  APWA website. It is the information resource for the American Public Works Association, and the gateway to a vast array of public works solutions and resources.

As the largest and one of the oldest associations of public works professionals worldwide, APWA is committed to excellence. Our goal is to provide all of the information, services and linkages that members and non-members need, as well as supplying facts and public infrastructure solutions and connections for the general public and media. You will find that the APWA website, which has been updated  in the past year, covers the depth and breadth of public works, including information and best management practices in transportation, water resources, fleet services, emergency management, solid waste, utility and right-of-way, engineering and technology, facilities and grounds, and public works leadership and management.

Public works is a constant explosion of creativity and ideas, continually elevating and pushing the boundaries of imagination, making the impossible possible. By using the updated website tools to connect with information and others, we hope you are inspired to think creatively and deliver solutions to the community you serve. The site’s refreshed design format allows you to access information with more user-friendly navigational tools, while incorporating more topics and connections for public works professionals than ever before. I encourage you to view the site and give us your feedback.

As we move forward in the coming year, APWA is committed to implementing our strategic vision and plan  by supporting our seven strategic initiatives. As the Board of Directors, our only interest is assuring that we serve the needs of our members and the profession as a whole.  To that end, I encourage you to explore the site and learn more about our new APWA Donald C. Stone Center for Leadership Excellence in Public Works, the APWA Center for Sustainability, our international initiatives, our work to influence public policy, and how you can connect with any one of our 63 chapters or 28,500 members in North America.

The value of the American Public Works Association to you and your community is what you make of it. If you are visiting and are not a member, we invite you to join us as we continue to support livable communities and provide the   sustainable quality of life that the citizens of North America expect.

 Sincerely,Diane M Linderman, PE., PWLF
