Is there a special APWA membership offer to nonmembers and how do I take advantage of this offer? Where do I send my registration and application forms?
Nonmembers can take advantage of this opportunity to register for the 2007 International Public Works Congress and Exposition and also join APWA for one full year. This offer will provide you with a one-year individual membership in the American Public Works Association (a $129 value!) when you register for Congress at the nonmember price. Simply register at the nonmember price and also mark the box indicated on the registration form to receive your one-year membership. This offer is valid only for new APWA members. If I fax in my membership application am I still able to take advantage of the member rates for Congress?
APWA must receive payment for membership dues before you can take advantage of the member registration rates for Congress. Membership payment should be sent to APWA, P.O. Box 802296, Kansas City, MO 64180-2296 or you can pay by American Express, MasterCard or VISA. Call 800-848-2792 or click here to join online.

Is there an Early Bird Discount?
Yes. If register before July 20, 2007 you can save $50 on Full Congress rates.

What is the deadline for pre-registration?
The deadline for pre-registration is August 24, 2007. After that date, registration will be onsite only.

How do I register my family?
Register your family by using the Congress Guest/Spouse Pre-Registration Form. After August 20, 2007 registration for all attendees will be onsite only.

What is your cancellation policy?
All cancellations or requests for refunds must be made in writing. A full refund, less a $50 administrative fee will be issued if written notice is postmarked by August 10, 2007. No refunds will be issued on requests made after August 10, 2007. All refunds will be issued no later than 60 days after Congress.

What is the deadline for hotel reservations?
August 10, 2007. The APWA Housing Bureau will continue to process cancellations and changes until August 29.

Will I need to put a deposit on my room(s)?
Yes. All reservations require a valid credit card or check guarantee at the time of confirming your reservation. Requests received without a valid guarantee will be returned and will not be processed. Credit cards must be valid through September 2007 and may be charged anytime after August 29, 2007 at the discretion of the hotel holding your reservation.

If you prefer to pay your deposit by check, the check should be made payable to APWA Housing Bureau, in the amount of $200.

What if I want a suite?
Only exhibit companies may reserve hospitality suites. Confirmation of all suites are subject to APWA approval.

What do I do if I need to cancel or make changes to my hotel reservation?
You can cancel your reservations on or before August 10, 2007 to avoid a penalty. Cancellations received after August 10 will be assessed a $50 cancellation fee. Cancellations made within 72 hours of your arrival date will be charged the first night’s room rate and tax by the hotel.

Do I contact the hotel directly?
No. Until August 29, 2007, submit any changes or cancellations to the APWA Housing Bureau.

Transportation

What kinds of ground transportation are available to and from the airport and hotels?
SATRANS Airport Shuttle is available for airport transportation to and from San Antonio International Airport. Tickets are $12 each way with purchase of a roundtrip ticket or $14 one way.

Major rental car service is also available at the airport.
Taxicab Rates:
Initial meter drop, first 1/6 mile $1.70
Each additional 1/6 mile $0.30
Airport departure fee $0.50
Airport minimum charge $8.00
Downtown minimum charge $3.00
Late hour fee (9 p.m. – 5 a.m.) $1.00

Will shuttle service be available from the hotels to the convention center?
Complimentary shuttle service will be available to registered delegates between the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center and the official APWA Congress Hotels. All shuttles will pickup and drop off outside the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center. Shuttle service will begin on Saturday, September 8 at 7 a.m. and operate during Congress hours until Wednesday, September 12.

Will ADA transportation be available? How do I make arrangements for this?
If you require assistance with ADA transportation or further assistance with the shuttle service, please call Dana Priddy at 816-595-5241 or by e-mail at dpriddy@apwa.net. Special transportation will be available during all peak shuttle times during Congress. Onsite requests during non-peak hours will be handled as expeditiously as possible.

Education Sessions, CEUs and CD-ROMs

Where can I find a listing of the education sessions?
You can find a complete listing of education sessions in the Congress Preview. You may also view the sessions by date or by subject.

What is a CEU?
The Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is a nationally accepted measure of participation in continuing education activities. It is a valuable tool for showing employers and professional licensing authorities that you are adding new skills and staying current with today’s ever-changing workplace.

Can I earn CEUs for participating in the education sessions?
Yes. CEUs will be awarded for attending Congress education sessions.

APWA uses an electronic system to track attendance at education sessions. The Congress badge has a bar code on it that contains identifying information specific to each person. People interested in obtaining credit for the education sessions attended should follow these instructions:

  • Room monitors will be in the back of each education session room to electronically scan the bar code on the name badge at the conclusion of the session.
  • The candidate must attend the entire session to receive CEU credits.
  • Candidate MUST have their badges scanned at the end of each session to receive CEU credits.
  • On the last day of attendance, the candidate should turn in their completed CEU Request Form and $20 processing fee at the Congress registration desk, located in the East Lobby of the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center. In late October, APWA will mail a transcript verifying the CEUs earned by attending this year’s Congress.
  • Candidates that don’t turn in their CEU Request Form onsite can mail their completed CEU Request Form and $20 processing fee to:

Will recordings of the general sessions and education sessions be available for purchase?
Selected live audio digital recordings of the general sessions and the education sessions will be made available via an interactive MP3 CD-ROM package series. These CD-ROMS will also include the speakers’ PowerPoint presentations, an exhibitor directory, and upcoming event information. Full Congress registrants may order this package in advance at a discounted price of $119 by using the Congress Registration form or this package can be purchased onsite for $129. The post-Congress price will be $229.

What is APWA Central?
APWA Central—booth #3121—is APWA’s cyber-café booth on the exhibit floor. Attendees can check their e-mail or just sit and relax and visit with friends. People will also be able to visit APWA’s web resource, www.apwa.net, for more information about APWA.

When are the technical tours and how much to they cost?
The 2007 technical tours will be offered on Wednesday, September 12. All tours will depart from the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center. NOTE: Some tour sizes are limited. Registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Click here for more information about Technical Tours.

When is the banquet and what is the deadline for exchanging coupons for a ticket to the banquet?
The banquet will be Wednesday, September 12, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center Ballroom C. Full registration includes a coupon for the banquet that must be exchanged onsite in the registration area for a ticket. The deadline for banquet ticket exchange is Tuesday, September 11 at 2 p.m.

Chapter Dinners

When are the chapter dinners and where can I find out where they are held?
Most chapter dinners are Tuesday, September 11. For information on chapter dinners, contact Rhonda Wilhite at 816-595-5261 or e-mail rwilhite@apwa.net.

Onsite in San Antonio, current information on chapter dinners will be available in the APWA Congress registration area at the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center. Can I bring my child with me to visit the exhibits?
Yes. APWA allows children to visit the exhibit floor during regular exhibition hours. For safety, anybody under 18 must be registered onsite and be accompanied by an adult. The parent/guardian must assume all risk and is responsible for the safety of the child. Children can only be registered onsite beginning Saturday, September 8, 2007. No children will be allowed on the exhibit floor during installation and dismantling of the exhibits.
