APWA Submits Comments on EPA Strategic Plan

In early October, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a notice calling for comments on the Agency’s FY18-22 strategic plan. The draft plan calls for updating of regulatory structures, increased funding and financing for investment in water infrastructure, and streamlining of local, state, and federal interactions. APWA submitted comments to the Agency, noting that the draft plan is in sync with APWA’s legislative priorities.

APWA did note in the comments that there was a lack of focus on resiliency of infrastructure within the strategic plan. It is the position of APWA that policies, programs, and projects to mitigate the impacts of severe weather events are critical and necessary to develop water resilient communities.
