President Trump Nominates Kirstjen Nielsen for DHS Secretary


President Trump has nominated Ms. Kristjen Nielsen to serve as the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Pending confirmation by the Senate, Ms. Nielsen will take the helm at DHS. Ms. Nielsen’s background includes homeland security policy and strategy, cybersecurity, critical infrastructure, and emergency management. Additionally, Ms. Nielsen is the first nominee for this position to have previously worked within DHS. Ms. Nielsen served in two administrations, first as senior legislative policy director for Transportation & Security Administration under President George W. Bush and then as DHS Chief of Staff under President Trump. She also served as general counsel for the homeland and national security arm of the Civitas Group, a consulting firm in the private sector.
