Feds Looking to Streamline NEPA for Infrastructure Work

On September 14, the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) announced in the Federal Register its’ intention to potentially be updating the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The goal is to streamline environmental reviews for infrastructure projects. CEQ will also issue guidance to individual agencies to be compiled in a “NEPA Practitioner’s Handbook” for infrastructure project proposals. In the notice, CEQ lays out its “initial list of actions,” which calls for reducing the infrastructure permitting timeline to two years.
