U.S. DOT Soliciting Applications for FASTLANE Grants

The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) has $850 million in grant funding available for fiscal year (FY) 2017. A Notice of Funding Opportunity was recently released and is authorized by the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act signed into law (Public Law 114-94) this past December. The discretionary grant program called “FASTLANE”, Fostering Advancements in Shipping and Transportation for the Long-term Achievement of National Efficiencies, provides additional federal funding for nationally significant highway and freight projects. Nearly $3 billion more is authorized for fiscal years 2018 through 2020.

The FASTLANE grants are to be combined with other funding from federal, state, local, and private sources in order to support $3.6 billion in infrastructure investment across 15 states and the District of Columbia. According to U.S. DOT, “the Department is now beginning the process of soliciting applications to facilitate the possibility of awards with sufficient time for grantees to obligate in advance of peak construction season.” The deadline for submitting applications is 8:00PM on December 15, 2016 and applications should be submitted at www.grants.gov.
