There are a variety of Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) programs in use throughout North America.  Three speakers from the US and Canada will discuss the process implemented in their respective regions to identify hazards, obtain buy-in from decision makers, engage stakeholders and the community, develop action plans and took kits,  implement mechanisms outside normal business practices plus identify ongoing climate impact and long-term planning to obtain funding.

Attendees will have an opportunity to determine practices which will make their own municipality “climate resilient.”   If you are from a small/rural community or a large metropolitan area, you will benefit from participating in this Click, Listen and Learn program.

After viewing this program, participants will be better able to:

1) Discuss the variety of Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) programs in use throughout North America.
2) List the four steps to creating and maintaining a HIRA from the creator of the Ontario HIRA Workbook.
 3) Discuss steps that municipalities have taken to set new policies and requirements, plus engage the municipal decision makers.
